IPTCA – Irish Play Therapy Community Association and Art Therapy Ireland are delighted to announce another opportunity to take part in the 6-week CPD Art Therapy group, designed especially for Play Therapists and facilitated by Art Therapist, Andrea Clare Plunkett.
This will be the third year the group has run and it is open to both new and previous participants who are either fully qualified or trainee Play Therapists. A safe space will be offered for therapists to reflect and explore their own personal processes and creativity using materials available within the home and/or garden.
What is CPD?
CPD, or Continual Professional Development, is an ethical component of being a therapist of any kind, be it talk, art, dance & movement, drama, play, or music. By attending art therapy as CPD, you gain time to reflect on how it feels to make art and be creative in a therapeutic setting, therefore giving you insight into this part of your practice for the people you work with.
We will take time to focus on the self — on you in your practice — and explore other helpful creative topics to support deep reflection on yourself as a therapist, all within a fun, creative, and safe environment.
Important to note:
This CPD does not offer training in art therapy. A formal Master’s-level qualification recognised by the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists (IACAT) is required to safely practise as an Art Therapist in Ireland. Andrea or IACAT.ie can provide a list of courses currently running on the island of Ireland should you wish to formally train in Art Therapy.
What is Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is a form of therapy that uses art media to express, reflect, and communicate. You do not need to have any previous experience or expertise in art to benefit from Art Therapy.
Who is it for?
Art Therapy can be used across the lifespan. These online therapy sessions are for Play Therapists and cater for all needs and requirements. We are an open and inclusive space for all, so if you have any additional needs, please let Andrea know.
What are the benefits?
Art Therapy is founded on the belief that creative self-expression has therapeutic value for those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their personalities. Art Therapy sessions can support a wide range of common life experiences, including social or generalised anxiety, stress relief, and life transitions. Most importantly, Art Therapy sessions offer time to stop, relax, and refocus inward.
Booking notes:
Consent will be required from each participant, as this is an Art Therapy group. Booking is non-refundable except in the rare event that the organisers cancel. Attendance and punctuality at all six sessions are essential to support small-group cohesion.
Andrea Clare Plunkett is an IACAT-registered Art Therapist, MSc-trained at Ulster University, Belfast School of Art. Andrea works with groups both online and face-to-face using an empowering, person-led approach.
Booking will close one week before the start date. Places are limited.
